San Remo Ridgewood Tradition Since 1980
San Remo’s story begins with my father arriving in America as a teenager, carrying the hope of building a better life.
He found his calling in the kitchen, developing his culinary skills and working as a professional chef in Manhattan’s commercial kitchens. Those years taught him the discipline behind good food: careful preparation, respect for ingredients, and the patience to get every detail right.
In 1980, he brought that experience to Ridgewood and opened San Remo Pizzeria & Restaurant. What began as my father’s dream became our family’s life—and a neighborhood gathering place built one pizza, one conversation, and one customer at a time.
I grew up here.
For me, San Remo has never been just a business. It’s the place where I grew up.
As a child, I watched my father work, listened to his conversations with customers, and saw how much care went into keeping a restaurant running. Over the decades, watching became learning, and learning became taking on responsibilities of my own.
My father taught me about cooking, hard work, and the trust you earn when people choose to feed their families with your food. He showed me that every order matters, and that the relationships built across a restaurant counter can last for generations.
Years of working in the business gave those lessons depth. Business school helped me understand how to build on them, and my own interest in the culinary arts continues to push me to explore, improve, and create.
Now, as I take over the business, I carry both his experience and my own into San Remo’s next chapter. I want to honor what he built while giving it every opportunity to grow.
Built by family. Shaped by Ridgewood.
Ridgewood has always been rich in culture, character, and people with something to bring to the table. Over the decades, we’ve had the privilege of serving generations of families, longtime neighbors, and newcomers making this community their home.
We’ve seen the neighborhood change, heard its stories, and shared in the everyday moments that make a community what it is. Through it all, people from different backgrounds have brought their tastes, traditions, and expectations through our doors.
And they’ve brought their opinions about pizza.
We’ve listened to what people love, what they miss, and what they want us to try. That feedback has helped us refine our recipes and fine-tune the details, from the dough and sauce to the ingredients that finish every pie.
Some lessons came from my father’s years in professional kitchens. Others came from customers standing across the counter. Together, they’ve helped shape the food we serve today—and our commitment to making it better.
Our goal has always been simple: make pizza people remember, return for, and proudly recommend.
Before ordering was a click, it was a walk around the block.
San Remo was among the first pizzerias to offer delivery in the neighborhood. Back then, reaching our customers meant getting out into the streets.
We walked up and down the blocks of Ridgewood and Bushwick, handing out flyers and introducing ourselves. We built relationships face to face, and when the phone rang, we brought a little piece of our kitchen to someone’s doorstep.
Those early deliveries helped make San Remo part of the neighborhood’s daily life: a family dinner, a quick lunch, a gathering with friends, or a night when someone simply needed us to take care of the cooking.
I’ve watched that world change over the years. Paper flyers have given way to websites, online ordering, apps, and connected delivery platforms. We’ve had to learn, adapt, and grow with each new chapter.
As I guide the business forward, I’m bringing those tools into the restaurant with the same purpose my father had when he first offered delivery: take care of our customers and bring good food closer to them.
The tools have changed, but the promise behind them remains the same: delicious food, a warm welcome, and service that makes life a little easier.
A whole new menu. The same San Remo heart.
About six or seven years ago, we began a chapter that has become one of the most rewarding parts of our story: our vegan menu.
We wanted our vegan customers to feel the same excitement everyone else feels when opening a San Remo menu—to have real choices, familiar favorites, and a meal worth looking forward to.
So we listened. In online forums, customer reviews, and conversations at the counter, people shared what they were craving. Their enthusiasm helped inspire us to recreate the breadth of our Italian menu with plant-based options, bringing that same care to vegan pizzas, pastas, and more.
Our ambition was to give our vegan community a full menu of its own, with the variety and comfort that have always been part of the San Remo experience.
For me, it has also been an opportunity to bring my interest in the culinary arts together with something I learned growing up here: listen closely to your community, then put in the work to serve it well.
The response has been wonderful. Our vegan community has challenged us, encouraged us, and helped us become better cooks. Their support reminds us that a neighborhood restaurant grows strongest when it keeps listening.
We’re grateful for the relationships that have grown around this menu—and excited to keep creating for the customers who helped inspire it.
Our next chapter is still being written.
More than four decades after my father opened the doors, we still believe there is room to learn, improve, and create something exceptional.
He built San Remo with skill, determination, and years of hard work. I’m proud to carry that legacy forward, bringing my own education, experience, and curiosity to the business I’ve known all my life.
We’re proud of the methods we’ve developed for preparing our dough and selecting and working with our ingredients. We intend to keep refining that craft, helping move pizza forward while staying rooted in the food and hospitality that made San Remo home.
We look forward to continuing to serve our community, welcoming new generations of customers, and building on our place in the pizza industry.
Our ambitions are big. We dream of earning recognition at the highest level—including, one day, a Michelin star. That is an aspiration we hope to earn through the quality of our work, the consistency of our food, and the experience we give our guests.
But the recognition closest to my heart will always be a familiar face walking through the door, a family choosing us for dinner, or a new customer telling us they’ve found their pizza place.
I grew up watching my father build those relationships. Now, I look forward to continuing them—and welcoming the next generation to our table.
From my father’s first kitchen to your family’s table, thank you for being part of our story.
